Health & Human Services

The Health and Human Services Policy Committee has responsibility for the development of policies and proposals relating to the following: aging and long term care, alcohol and drug programs, mental health, the Medically Indigent Services Program (MISP), the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (Cal Works) program, foster care, child welfare services, adult protective services, the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program, the General Assistance (GA) program and the homeless. Together, these programs represent a large percentage of the state General Fund expenditures.

Federal Health Care Reform

Congress is in the midst of creating health care reform legislation, and counties stand to play a key role in many of the proposals.
