Description:

The City Attorney’s Office seeks a well-qualified, motivated attorney for the Assistant City Attorney position. The position will provide legal advice, counsel, and representation to the City in multiple areas. Duties include drafting and reviewing contracts, ordinances, resolutions, deeds, permits, licenses, conducting research, interpreting and updating the City Municipal Code, and providing advice to City staff. The position receives general direction and supervision from the City Attorney and may provide oversight and supervision to support staff. The position will oversee the work of the City Attorney’s Office in the absence of the City Attorney. The ideal candidate will have a broad base of knowledge and experience in municipal law such as the Brown Act, Political Reform Act, Public Records Act, contracts, personnel matters, public safety, public works, and advisory and litigation services. Extensive expertise in land use, planning and zoning, the subdivision map act, CEQA, and housing is especially desirable.

Qualifications:

Graduation from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association with a Juris Doctorate degree; AND Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience as an attorney in the practice of civil or municipal law. Licenses and Certifications: Active membership, in good standing, in the State Bar of California.
